Time flies when your having fun, or not! As usual my super procrastinating powers have been at work. It’s been quite while since I last posted and really I haven’t been up to much.
My last blog attracted the attention of Ken Kennedy. Ken and I worked together in the Building Design Department at AGT in 1966 when I first started, although over the years we slowly lost track of each other. It was great connecting with him.
Ken sent me a listing of all the Northern Alberta Railway stations on the route from Edmonton to the Peace Country. Seeing it invoked a memory of a story about the naming of Enilda. Initially it was named Grouard Station, the folklore I remember went like this. The NAR Station Agent had a daughter named Adline and she was killed by a train. Her name was reversed and the town became Enilda. Except that it was in fact Grouard Station early on, I have no idea of the veracity of the rest of the story.
Ran across the name of an old friend from my days going to Vocational school in Grande Prairie. While in Grade 12 Dave Nordin, Claude Smith and myself had an apartment in the Westwinds complex. Lorne Groner was in my Electronics class, we all became friends with him and his brother Larry. They had Motorbikes and I had a Honda 150, In the winter Lorne drove us to school in his Mom’s statin Wagon. His Mom was widowed and Dave, Claude and I paid her to do our Laundry. Yesterday Lorne and I re-connected with a Video call and had an extended chat. He has lived in Campbell River for a number of years.
He mentioned that another friend, Fred Plummer, lives in Calgary as well. Fred and I have since exchanged emails and hope to chat Monday.
Shortly I have to make a decision about this blog. The hosting and domain name are due for renewal, I had a great deal last year when I started but unfortunately hosting prices have become quite high. I will renew the domain name but will consider moving to a different platform.
That’s it for now!
